I intermittently checked the wattage while playing and recorded the peak observed wattage. The tests were done with each charger for several minutes at least (sometimes extended periods) where the system was under load as I played Mass Effect Andromeda* on my SB2 13.5" i7 w/16GB of RAM. This is not a perfect scientific test - just observed data in a semi-controlled environment. Enter the Surface Book 2, which can accept USB-C PD - wahoo! One charger to rule them all!īetween chargers at work, things I've purchased and returned, and a nifty little power meter, I have some details to report on which chargers seem to work best.

The only other exception are my wireless headphones, which are micro-USB - but at least they're still USB-based power so there's a lot of flexibility. Previously, I'd also used a Surface Pro 4 and annoyingly carried around the Surface charger. Obvious: every portable electronic device I regularly use except one is powered by USB-C - the new iPad Pro, Pixelbook (work), Pixel phone, Sony digital camera, Nintendo Switch, and probably other stuff I'm missing.

This post mostly confirms data from various other sources (e.g., Dan Charlton's post about USB-C, the widely-cited Adventures Reddit post) but adds some new information about not-previously-covered chargers.
